Have you ever been to a yoga class and your instructor says just the right words at the right time?  It happens to me all the time.  Lately I've been spending too much time over- thinking and when I went to class, I received the perfect dosage of yoga meds ;)  

My teacher, Harmony, said one of her very first teachers taught her a simple lesson, "Don't believe everything you think."  It hit home immediately.  She explained she looked out the window this morning and it was still dark outside.  She grabbed a sweatshirt and was on her way to teach, when she realized it's still hot and humid (we live in AZ and it's monsoon season).  Her  preconceived notion of dark = cold caused her to think and behave differently than she normally would.

In life, we are assessing situations all the time.  Yoga teaches us to observe our thoughts vs. identify with them, but the bottom line is - thought patterns can be just that . . . thought patterns.  A habit or pattern conditioned from what we've experienced in the past, present, and what we seek from the future.  

I'm a big believer in trusting your gut, but there's a time and a place to stop, listen, and observe your thought patterns.  That place is here, and that time is now.  Do you think you're incapable or undeserving of things you want in life?  Do you think certain people don't like or support you?  Do you think you need more things to be happy or confidant?  Like my teacher said, "Don't believe everything you think."

PRACTICE

1. WARM UP

Start with "warm-up" stretches or series to awaken the body.

2. PRACTICE FLOW SEQUENCE

  • Complete the right side (as shown below), start to finish.  You will end up at the front of your mat.  
  • Complete the left side and end at the front of your mat.
  • Repeat 1-3 times (repeat same sequence or advance postures).

3. COOL DOWN

End with a cool down sequence.
