I recently came across a great article by Dr. Junger about the power of shakes. I'm not a doctor, but I always share foods that work for me with hopes to teach or inspire someone else to make healthy choices. I regularly post about breakfast shakes and recipes as it's a healthy lifestyle choice I have become accustomed to. Everybody is different, but this article really validated my feelings about the power of shakes!

Dr. Junger mentioned the following benefits to shakes:
1. Water, Nutrients, Fiber.
Shakes contain water, easily digestible nutrients, and fiber. After a long night's rest, our body is thirsty and we rarely drink enough water in the mornings. Shakes are a great way to infuse the body with nutrients and water all at once!
2. Digestive Rest
After the brain, the digestive system uses the most energy of any system in the body. We've also discussed this when exploring fasting or juice cleanse benefits. When we blend our food, it becomes partially digested and leaves less work for the body. This leaves you with more energy for other things like repair and detox throughout the body.
3. Diversity of Ingredients
Shakes are an easy way to blend a diverse group of ingredients. You can easily mix greens with liquids, healthy fats, protein, and fruit! Creating different combinations (use all colors of the rainbow) will provide the body with a unique profile of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that help to make sure you are getting all the nutrients you need.
4. Use shakes for cleansing and beyond
- breakfast
- post workout
- late afternoon snack
- healthy travel food
- for weight loss
- for weight gain
- to get back on track
